Dopff & Irion

The Dopff and Irion families, the roots of whom can be traced to the vineyard as far back as the 16th century, have built upon that heritage throughout the generations. The vineyard and the Château de Riquewihr are located in the city of the same name, which is ranked among the most beautiful villages in France.

An exceptional estate

At the end of the Second World War, two famous winemakers, René Dopff and Madame Veuve Irion, teamed up. The story of Dopff & Irion was born. One of their first moves was to acquire the historic Château de Riquewihr.

René Dopff was an iconic and prestigious producer, for decades impacting the Alsatian winemaking domain by placing particular emphasis on the quality of the wine (by initiating vine yield reductions, for example), as well as modernizing labelling — he was the first to associate grape varieties with terroirs and specific soils.

The Dopff & Irion Château de Riquewihr offers an extensive variety of appellations, grape varieties, grands crus and specialties of the Alsatian wine-growing region. The estate relies on its team’s commitment to excellence in order to develop character-filled wines that express the exceptional typicity of their terroir of origin.
